In 2027, the MasZen Foundation plans to travel to Japan to learn from a culture that places deep value on harmony, respect, and emotional balance in education. Our work will be grounded in listening, observing, and learning, guided by respect for Japan’s private culture and the importance of trust.
Our goal is not to replicate Japan’s school system, but to thoughtfully learn from it. Through meetings with educators, approved conversations with students, and quiet observation of school environments, we hope to better understand how emotional safety is woven into daily school life.
Schools around the world are searching for ways to better support students’ emotional well-being. Japan’s approach—often subtle, collective, and deeply relationship-based—offers perspectives that can enrich and deepen this important work.
